Hello everyone! School and this weather has kept me swamped inside with all this homework and rain. I just finished reading Margret Atwood's A Handmaid's Tale. I would have to say I love this book a lot, especially as a fan of Dystopian novels. This is the world that most moderate and liberal people are afraid of. The right-wing family values to the extreme. Don't get me wrong I am a moderate Christian and I am not the spawn of Satan but this book really opens your eyes to some of the attempts of some of the extreme conservatives to blur the line between where religion ends and politics start and how in fear we are ready to surrender to our basic ideals of religion and give up our rights. Written originally in 1985 right at the closing of the time of reganomics and the new right wing it's scary how much we today can still relate to it. However as enjoyable as the book has been I do not believe it will become an insta-classic like such books as 1984 and A Brave New World, due to te fact it is told from a woman's perspective ( so that's half the population that will not be immediately picking up this book) and she is of an older age ( there goes the twitward generational gap). I know currently this is taught in women voices class, I can only hope this will get out of that specialized classroom and into the hands of the modern reader.
I never expected that this blog would become a criticism of the things I read but...we'll see also exciting I got a letter back from the writer of my first Zine I read... I still need to reply and the writer of Sympathy Jones also sent me the sheet music I requested for my audition. I can't wait this week will hopefully be better
