Yes, yes it does.
I came back from Ireland over a month ago. I have been so busy with work that I haven't had any chance to update my Blog and lead a life as a blogger. I work at a day camp from 8-5 Monday through Friday and I am in love with my job. Working with kids, hanging out with some of the coolest people, and getting paid to do so? Who could ask for anything better? Not me. I grew up at Resident (that's overnight camp) Camp for Ten years and now I get to be those superheroes that I had looked up to! There are two reasons I have come back from the Internet drought. One, I've been getting twitter followers even though I barely post (thank you thank you thank you!) Two, launching this week are two of my greatest passions. Shark Week and The Uniform Project Year 2. Most of you I am hoping know what Shark Week is but The Uniform Project I don't expect you to know.
The Uniform Project was started by Sheena Matheiken a year ago when she realized in her job in advertising wasn't fulfilling. So using her love of fashion as her medium she made a dress, a simple frocked dress to wear for one year. Not buying any new clothing only reused, vintage, and donated clothing. And accepting monetary donations towards the Akanksha Foundation a non-profit for Indian children living in the slums. With a goal and dedicated followers she raised over $100,000 for the foundation.
This year she's trying something different. Well first she has her dress and dress pattern released for people to buy copies of her dress (Donating 10% to the Akanksha Foundation). And second she has her site hosted for twelve undaunted ladies to create their own project for one month for a charity of their choice.
The first of which is a lady by the name of India raising money for a school in the ninth ward in New Orleans. In addition to making monetary donations to the site you can also buy a limited run of each person's dress also money going to their choice. If you haven't checked out the site do so it is at The Uniform Project and donate to these worthy causes.
The real reason I'm posting other than to spread the word is to also ponder to the vastness of the Internet. Should I try this myself? Perhaps not to raise money but as a personal challenge. I've tried novel writing in a month (Four times and three times a winner), writing blogs, and even writing a new short story a day! ( that didn't work out too terribly well). Perhaps this challenge I may take up...eventually. I plan on updating more often. I miss the Internet.
